Nutrisystem Complaints: What Do the Bad Reviews Say?

Nutrisystem Complaints: What Do the Bad Reviews Say?
(Last Updated On: August 24, 2022)

What are the top Nutrisystem complaints? Well, let’s start with this…

It’s not surprising that people are still grabbing for the next best diet fad, because the idea of losing weight in a few days is very alluring. And in some cases, the diets might actually work.

But everyone can agree that every diet does seem to have different effects. Take for example the Nutrisystem diet, which is unique compared to most diets, but does it make a difference?

In this article, we’ll take a quick look at what the Nutrisystem diet entails, and the five most common complaints connected to it. So, if you thought about trying it, read these Nutrisystem bad review first, then make a decision.

What are the Top Nutrisystem Complaints?

1. It’s a Difficult System to Maintain Long-Term

Look, I’ll be the first to admit that the Nutrisystem diet isn’t easy…at first, that is. If you’re used to eating large meals or feasting on McDonald’s and Taco Bell regularly, yeah, the Nutrisystem meal plan is going to be an adjustment.

But, if you stick with it for about a week, your body should adjust, and this new way of eating will gradually get easier and easier (see my experience here).

You’re going to have to make this adjustment if you truly want to make a change, so why not let a proven system like Nutrisystem help you get there?

That said, some of the most common bad Nutrisystem reviews revolve around the difficulty of the system. Basically, people can’t customize their orders according to their taste. Even though the option is there, they can’t make it work for them.

Some clients went so far as to say the selection of food within the basic plan (more affordable section) is way too limited.

This has been a big problem for people interested in using the diet, especially those who require a customized order to go with their diabetic situation.

2. Too Much Sugar and Sodium

Some people think Nutrisystem has too much sugar

Strangely enough, there have been several complaints regarding the taste of the food. Apparently, the packages contain too much sodium and salt.

However, the problem with this complaint is pretty difficult to understand. According to Nutrisystem, they only add 2000mg of sodium per day, which is just below the recommended intake of 2300mg by the FDA.

So, either people are tasting something that’s not there, or Nutrisystem isn’t truthful – I’m going with Nutrisystem on this one.

3. The Cancellation Fee

If you’re thinking about joining the Nutrisystem diet, read the fine print first. There’s a cancellation fee involved at certain sections. It’s in the contract that you’ll be committing to the auto-delivery system, which means you’ll pay $125 if you cancel an order.

That said, there is a way around this – I detail exactly how to cancel your order WITHOUT having to pay the early-cancellation fee on our pricing page, so be sure to check that out!

4. Customer Service

If there’s one area you’d think a big diet company would focus on, it’s the customer service.

But this was one complaint that I kept seeing about Nutrisystem – I disagree, with this assessment, however (more on that below).

Finding reviews about the bad customer service experiences are incredibly easy to find. And the biggest problems usually come down to dead-end calls or simply never contacting the customer again.

In some cases, people said it can take up to 5 days to speak to a supervisor, but is that actually the case?

I have personally had to call Nutrisystem customer service multiple times over the years, and they have been nothing short of helpful and friendly, so I really am not sure where this feedback is coming from.

In all honesty, it was  Nutrisystem customer service rep who told me how to get out of paying the early cancellation fee, so I really have ZERO complaints when it comes to their customer service.

5. The Food

Yes, going on a diet means eating stuff you don’t necessarily like. But that doesn’t mean you have to hate the food all the time.

And according to several unhappy clients, the food from Nutrisystem doesn’t quite measure up. Apart from the heavy sodium taste, some have said the food is stale and “very boring.”

For the most part, customers don’t look forward to their meals, regardless of whether it’s in the morning, noon or night. And obviously, this can be a major problem for a company specializing in food.

I have stated this in my review, but for $300 a month, you can’t go into Nutrisystem expecting 5-star restaurant quality. Think more along the lines of Lean Cuisine (although I think the Nutrisystem food is better).

Is the food excellent? Probably not. Most of the meals are pretty decent, though, and the bottom line is this – if you follow their plan, eat their food, and stay motivated you WILL lose weight.

Nutrisystem Side Effects

Feeling Hungry

nutrisystem diet program

When you first start Nutrisystem, you will most likely feel hungry the first few days that you’re on the program. That was the case for me, anyway. When I first started the diet, I was used to eating a lot of food at every meal. That typically meant a visit to McDonald’s, Burger King, or another fast food option for every meal.

As a result, my body was used to needing a lot of food to feel satisfied. When you start Nutrisystem, you’ll notice that you get to eat 6 small meals per day.

This is great, as it prevents those huge hunger crashes throughout the day, but if you’ve been eating a super-sized Big Mac value meal most days, this is going to be an adjustment – those are just the facts.

That said, it takes a day or two for your body to adjust, and then you should be good to go! By day 3 or 4 I had completely adjusted to this new way of eating, and I was on my way to losing more than 30 pounds – which was pretty awesome, in my opinion!

Any Other Issues with Nutrisystem?

Beyond that, I really didn’t experience any other side effects while using the Nutrisystem program. They don’t have any specific side effects listed on their website, so assuming you’ve talked with your doctor, Nutrisystem should be a safe dieting option for most people

If you’re worried about any potential side effects beyond what we’ve mentioned, then be sure to check with your doctor to make sure you’re healthy enough for Nutrisystem.

Summary: There Are Some Complaints, But We Still Like it

While there are some people who are going to complain about the Nutrisystem diet program, their results speak for themselves – if you follow the plan, you will lose weight with their easy-to-follow and effective system.

Is the food perfect? No. But, it tastes pretty good, and it WORKS! That’s the most important factor for me. I wanted to see results, and I did – which is why I endorse this program.
